Feminine Jar -- Sculpture
Feminine Jar
2022 | Electric Fired Cone 5 | Ancient Jasper over Chun Plum, Brush Applied | Feminine: 18 x 5.25 x 6.75 in | Individual: $1,200 each
Ancient Jasper brushed over Chun Plum, electric fired to cone 5, on wheel-thrown cylinder bases finished with a chattering texture, a rhythmic tool technique that pulls the surface into a wood bark pattern, concentric and organic. The glaze combination produces a wide range of color across the iron-red spectrum, the variation depicting the breadth of masculine and feminine energy rather than reducing either to a single tone. Each jar is topped with a hand-altered ring and stressor structure. The female lid carries a large S crack filled in kintsugi, gold tracing the fracture line across the warped surface. The male carries a kintsugi repair on one of the lower coils. Both lids show a natural warp from the weight of the sculptural toppers and the kiln process, the firing asserting itself on the work the way the series themes assert themselves on the forms. Where Priorities carries the same glaze combination in a heavy pour, these jars wear it in brushstrokes, directional, varied, the hand visible in every pass. Two distinct energies in the same formal language, completing each other. Available individually or as a set. The set carries a 10% premium and a shared certificate of authenticity documenting their relationship. Payment plan available on either configuration.
